This chapter of The Broken Model focuses on the critiques of the traditional education system. The author emphasizes that the current education is completely outdated and needs to be reformed in a lot of ways. One major point is that the Prussian model of education has shaped our current education system a lot. The Prussian model focused on obedience and conformity, which is still seen a lot currently. Along with this, the author believes that these approaches and traditions are engrained so deeply due to the fact that they have been around for so long. The author goes over the failures of these outdated models and traditions in order to emphasize the need for alternative practices to benefit children. At the end of the chapter, the author calls for reforms in the education system that focus on fostering creativity and contemporary needs.

After reading Chapter 2, I noticed that throughout the entirety of the reading I kept establishing connections. As someone who currently works in an elementary school, I love reading articles like this because not only do I learn so much, but I am able to relate a lot of these topics back to my everyday experiences as a substitute teacher. One major connection I made was definitely my feelings toward standardized testing. I could not agree more that standardized testing should not be the standard to measure intelligence and ability as it fails to understand creativity and curiosity in children. I do not understand how one test, like the SAT, can measure one's intelligence, especially for those who are not good at test takes, suffer from testing anxiety, or have other factors playing into their scores.
